Trouble in Tahiti - New Zealand productions?

Submitted by metropolitan on June 8, 2006 - 12:20.

Hi, I am hoping some of the wise heads of the New Zealand Opera Society may be able to help me.

I am working on a production of the Leonard Bernstein opera 'Trouble in Tahiti' for the Wellington Fringe Festival 2007, and I would like to know if anyone is aware of any other New Zealand productions of this opera?

It would be nice to be presenting a New Zealand premiere of the work, but I expect it has been done at some point.

Many thanks in advance.

Yours sincerely

John Parker

Trouble in Tahiti scores?

Hi all, just a follow-up to my post about 'Trouble in Tahiti'. Thanks to those of you who came to the launch party on Friday October 27th - the show will be on in the Wellington Fringe Festival 2007, from February 10th-18th. Check www.troubleintahiti.com for more details.

In the meantime, I'm wondering whether anyone might be able to help us. Hal Leonard Australia (who own the rights to 'Trouble in Tahiti') are being less than helpful with the licensing for the production. It's taken me 4 months just to get a quote for the royalty fee for the production, and they are point-blank refusing to hire us the vocal scores we need for rehearsals - they would prefer us to buy them from Hal Leonard for AUS$56.00 a copy! Obviously we don't have the spare cash for this, so I'm trying to acquire other copies from around the country, 2nd-hand book websites etc.

Does anybody own a copy of the vocal score for this show, and would they be prepared to hire it to use for the duration of our rehearsals and performances? We would take *very* good care of them, and would pay for courier / freight etc.

If you have a copy of the score or know someone who does, please get in touch with me, on info@troubleintahiti.com or 04 971 7678. Cheers John
