Six outstanding New Zealand singers compete in the Final of the prestigious Lexus Song Quest 2007

From a starting pack of 63 competitors nationwide the six best were selected to compete for $58,000 in study scholarships and cash prizes. The finalists will showcase their talent by performing two testing arias accompanied by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and one song with piano.

One of the world’s leading dramatic sopranos on today’s stage, Elizabeth Connell, is the judge for the Final. Ms Connell will announce the 2007 Lexus Song Quest winner on the night. MC is 1972 Song Quest winner, the charming Chris Doig.

The Song Quest has been the springboard for young singers and launched international careers of previous winners Kiri Te Kanawa, Malvina Major, Jonathan Lemalu, Teddy Tahu Rhodes and Anna Leese.

 
Recital Tour
For the first time in the 50 year long history of the Song Quest the top three place-getters of the Lexus Song Quest 2007, will tour the country giving audiences a chance to hear these promising young performers first hand. These winners will be selected from the Final concert in Auckland’s Town Hall on 27 April.

The Recital Tour will take the winners to Christchurch (30 April), Dunedin (2 May) and Wellington (4 May) for joint recitals accompanied by Terence Dennis.
