Orchestral Accompaniments for Porgy and BessSubmitted by David Levesque on March 6, 2005 - 20:41.
The New Plymouth Orchestra is staging a night of Gershwin Music including we hope several vocals from Porgy and Bess. However we are having great difficulty finding suitable full orchestral accompanyments. Cadence have an orchestral arrangement of some of the opera but the music would require considerable rewriting for vocals. I would be grateful if you could suggest any contacts or societies in NZ which have staged the opera or any other ideas. Many thanks |

This may be a stab in the dark - but I played in the Waikato Youth Orchestra a many years ago - and I'm sure we played extracts from Porgy- I definitely remember- Bess you is my Woman! Maybe you could try them?
